The ship is run aground on a sandbank (more plausible in archipelagos/shallow waters), so the players must find a way to dig the ship out or use enough force to push off from the bank (but not too much force to break the ship!)
You pass ovearound an island recently submerged underwater by rising sea levels (natural or otherwise). The tops of trees and buildings peak over the lapping waves, and if you glance down and squint you can make out the signs of a civilisation eradicated; fish swimming about abandoned hovels, overturned carts floating by, and even the occasional ghost wandering down dead roads.
Far in the distance, you can make out a naval battle raging. The distant thunder of cannons and a faint smell of brimstone linger in the air. Eventually one ship keels over, sinking beneath the waves.
A half-sunken ship containing a hag. She'll promise them anything they want in exchange for safe passage back. Obviously a monkeys paw scenario, helps a lot with the overtly good paladins etc

Has anyone featured an encounter with black smokers yet? Vents from the planets mantel spewing out pressurized boiling gas, causing pillars of what looks like black smoke underwater and a huge diversity of life that is strange and alien. You could combine that with a giant Bobbit worm made of smoke poking out of a portal to the elemental plane of fire. this is a vague idea.
Maybe come across some merfolk torturing a sapient giant electric eel, they are doing so to capture electricity that powers a magic artifact that keeps a merfolk child alive. free the eel and the child dies. leave it and a living thinking creature is tortured slowly to death.
While you observe the sea you notice a big shadow appear under the boat. A BIG shadow. A massive sea creature appears.
While sailing, suddenly it gets more and more foggy till you can barely see anything anymore. Suddenly you see a hazy ship coming out of the water and getting closer to you. The crew doesn't look normal (Black Pearl inspired)
You travel a long time on a boat with only a few passenger, you eat regularly together in the small tavern style restaurant on the boat and basically know all passengers by face. One day one of them disappears. Next day another one, and another one. The rest passengers get suspicious. The persons are nowhere to be found. The PCs try to investigate. In the end turns out a vampire is on the boat coming out when its cloudy or raining. (Dracula Series on Netflix, Second Episode)

Thatch was a the chief cook of the Moby Dick and he was able to do energy food like Sanji.
It seems that Thatch and WB were close. Thatch was the one bringing WB is medecine
So they reiterate that WB is the WSM but they add that he could destroy an entire island in a blink of an eye.
WB’s have more than ten thousands men under his command ( including crewmates ans allies)
We learn that Sengoku highly appreciated Jinbe. Especially because Jinbe is the only one to answer to every shihsibukai's convocation
The WG asked Ace to be a Shishibukai because the 7th place was vacant. (Rivaille’s note: at that time Jinbe, Sir Crocrodile, Hancock, Doflamingo and Moria were already Shishibukai which means that it is either Mihawk or Kuma who were not a Shishibukai yet).
At this time, WB was not ill yet, it is at least what Thatch said to Jinbe (Rivaille's note: he might have been lying)
It is reiterated that the Gorosei are under the Celestial dragons’ orders
Ace explained that when he lose consciousness during his meal it is because the meal is too good
WB was considered as a hero in Fishman island. The Fishmen trust him more than they trust the WG

Red Hair Shanks had several duels with Mihawk and every one of them have made the headlines. Furthermore, most of Shanks’ fame are from those duels. It is also said that he does not seek to become the PK
It is said that it is better to not make Shanks angry because when he is angry no one can stop him.
It is said that what makes Whitebeard’s angry is when you do not do your duty. There is nothing more important than honor to him and once you are his son he will never let you down.
It is said that what make Big Mom dangerous is when she is in a bad mood. Big Mom's crew is compared to a mafia reigning over a country rather than a pirate crew protecting a territory.
It is said that Kaido existence is horrific in itself. And that his crew are more a group of delinquent than a pirate crew (Rivaille’s note : these depictions of the emperors are introduce as rumors)
WB and Big Mom are from the previous generation while Kaido and Shanks are from the generation after that
For some people, because Shanks was on the Oro Jackson, they considered that he is the heir of Roger (Rivaille’s note : they think that before Ace was reveal to be the son of Roger)
On his territories WB had restaurants, casinos, trade, weapons trade, show business...all those activities were there to sustain his tremendous armada.
Basically, WB had the most men, the most territories and the a huge amount of revenus (Rivaille’s note : this explain Mrs Baggins' words about WB’s treasure)
Shanks is the emperor that people have the most difficulty to locate
Shanks is describe to be very gentle with his friends but to be ruthless with the young bloods who think to high of themselves
When Shanks met Ace, Red hair used CoC on him but he did not work
When Shanks used CoC, the fire in front of him gain in intensity
Shanks find that Ace’s way to salute people was weird. He did not know how to react so he looked at Beckman, Roo and Yassop to see how they feel. If he did not attack Ace it is because they did not seems to find Ace’s hostile (Rivaille’s note: interesting to see that Shanks has this much respect and confidence on his lieutenants’ opinion)
In the Pirates' World showing the palm of your hand when you salute someone, it is a sign of respect and humility
When Shanks wants to be menacing he grabs his sword if CoC does not work
« Beckmann : I bet that Makino is even more gorgeous than before...what do you think Captain? », « Shanks: Maybe... » (Rivaille’s note : Yeah, he clearly tapped dat ass )
Shanks does not consider the straw hat to be more precious than life. Meaning that, for him, the love Luffy has for the straw hat might be too much
For Shanks men, WB is worst than the devil and they will prefer to die 100 times rather than face him
For The people in the One Piece world, WB was the equivalent of a living natural disaster like a earthquake or a tsunami
One of the Shishibukai tried to kill WB few years prior to the novel ( Rivaille’s note : I guess it was Sir Crocodile)
It is reiterate that the stalemate between the emperors is because if one emperor beat another emperor that will just reinforce the influence of the last two
At this moment of his life, Ace lives only because of the sakazuki cup he shared with Luffy and Sabo. Ace said : « If it was not for Sabo and if I did not have a potty little brother like you...I will never thought of living. »
Ace hated Roger because he attributed all the suffering he met in his life to Roger. For Him, Roger is the reason why he suffered so much. Therefore he wants to surpass him to erase his legacy. He wanted for people to not call him « the son of Roger » but to call Roger « the father of Ace »
He never intended to become the PK or to find the One Piece, because for him it would have mean that he just like Roger. No, he wanted to do something different and bigger than being PK
This what Ace said to Shanks : « The entire world is my enemy. The Shishibukai, the emperors, the celestial dragons...I will beat them all. Once my flames have burn all the summits, I will put my flag on them ».
Shanks had a hard time to understand Ace’s personality.
Blackbeard scared Shanks just before he goes to East blue (Rivaille’s note: BB scaring Shanks is introduce has a big feat)
At this point of time, those scars do not throb anymore (Rivaille’s note: as if they were linked to BB’s ambition)
Even tho Ace projecting to attack WB was beneficial to Shanks, the latter could not help Ace directly. Because it would have start a conflict with WB
Shanks was on a winter island but before and after Ace presence there was blizzard and falling snow. When Ace was there no blizzard nor falling snow
Shanks said that he felt Ace’s haki even before Ace reached the island and that Ace’s haki is like flammes
To this Beckman guess that it was because of this that the snow melt (Rivaille’s note: my guess is that CoC can enhance any ability and that Ace’s CoC make the Mera mera no mi which the impact on the environment)
For Beckman, Ace is more a revolutionary than a Pirate.
For Beckman, Ace lack of vision would lead him to be only a mere fleet captain
For Beckmann, Ace is an arrogant young blood who believe that he is invincible because he ate a logia
It is said that the ones deciding who can become a Shishibukai are Sengoku and the Gorosei
Beckman said that just eating a logia does not justify to be ask to become a Shishibukai nor to have a bounty above 100 millions so there must be something else. Then he said to Shanks that maybe they asked Ace to become a Shishibukai to control him.
It is implied that after those remarks by Beckmann, after remembering some of Ace's words about Roger during their meeting and Ace’s birthplace, that Shanks understood that Ace is Roger’s son
It is said that Kaido was above WB in term of strength (Rivaille's note: it is not said if it is Primebeard or Oldbeard but i thin that they are talking of the WB of the novel)
It is said that Kaido is the WSC because of his apparent immortality and that he is a ferocious fighter
It is said that Big Mom’s family was what made her the most dangerous captain and that she is a formidable business woman
It is said that WB life accomplishment made him the strongest pirate, that he is the epitome of what it meant to be a pirate (Rivaille’s note: basically, Kaido is stronger than WB as an individual fighter but WB is stronger than Kaido in term of piracy)
Doma and A.O were working for another emperor and attack WB territories
The place where Ace fought Jinbe was very important for the WB’s Pirates because it was a place where they had a lot of food supplies.
It is implied that every emperor have food supplies islands and they were easy to conquer
The WG is depicted as the enemy of the liberty
It is reiterated that WB is the only man to ever have rivaled Roger
Ace did not use haki against Jinbe but Jinbe used haki against Ace
It is said that Jinbe vs Ace end on a draw
WB used CoC on the Spade pirates and he used aerial slash to defeat the ones that did not faint from the CoC’s blast
What allow Ace to face WB, even tho he was totally beat up and semi-conscious after his fight against Jinbe, was his desire to protect his crew. (Rivaille’s note: he basically create a wall of fire and charge WB on willpower alone)
WB attacked Ace with CoA on his bisento but Ace has the mental strength to go up after that. He impressed WB by his willpower and this why he asked him to join his crew.
It said that WB hit Ace so hard after he refused to join him that Ace forgot that the fight happened.
For the majority of the people of the One Piece world, every pirate is a calamity. For them Roger is not a benevolent figure but the reason why there are so much pirates and why some of them lose beloved ones.
Roger has a gift to read people’s heart
Ace’s crewmates have tried to free him from the Moby Dick but they failed
It is said that WB treat Ace like a mere mosquito when Ace first attacked him (Rivaille’s note: the scene is describe like the scene with Big Mom and the Brook’s rescue team)
Ace tried to kill WB on daily basis during several weeks. He tried at different times of the day without success
One time, one casual hit of WB one shot Ace
It is say that the emperors and the Shishibukai are the elite of the pirates' world
It is say that Old Beard is weaker than Primebeard but not how much weaker ( Rivaille’s note: this is said by Deuces who tried to explained to Ace how weak he is.)
It is say that one hundred thousand or maybe millions of people are depending on WB’s protection to be safe
Thatch told Ace that if WB let them live (Ace and his crew) it is because they were too weak to be a threat to his territories
When Kotatsu, Ace’s linx, met Teach he was really afraid of him.
At first, Ace did not like Teach
When Ace understood WB’s importance in the world, he stopped trying to kill him but was willing to have honorable fights against him. To force WB to accept this deal he decided to work for him (Rivaille’s note: it reminds me of Vinland Saga)
WB accepted Ace proposal, put him under Thatch’s responsibility and under Teach's tutelage
If Ace lose 100 fights to WB he had to join his crew
Thatch told Ace that at first, three men were ruling the new world : Roger, WB and Shiki. But only WB remained.
He also said that Big Mom still has her territories but she is an exception
Thatch says that only 30% of pirates are going into the new world
It is reiterate that there is no strength hierarchy between the WB’s commanders
Ace was considering the Marines as the biggest pirate crew (Rivaille’s note: I think it is akin to people saying that the biggest gang in LA is the LAPD)
Thatch explained that the marines only protect the part of the new world that they deem important. He elaborated by saying that marines first priority is to protect the WG not the civilians
Thatch explained to Ace that for him to become an emperor he has to at least become as strong as Shanks (Rivaille’s note: this seems to implied that Shanks is the weaker of the emperors)
It is say that there is no bad rumors about Shanks because he is considered to be a good guy
The WBP do not partake in slavery or drug trades
When the WBP destroy a crew that attack their territories and that WB did not deem worthy, they take their treasure, sell their boat, and use middle-man to collect their bounties
Teach is depicted to have low pain tolerance. He is also depicted to be the pirate archetype
Teach admit that he is the guy who scared Shanks...but then say that he was joking
Mr1 was known by Thatch
Thatch said that he would love to have the Mera Mera no mi or the clear clear fruit
Ace manage to hit WB once during their 99 brawl and WB said that is starting to become strong
It is implied that if WB let Ace fought him it was to train Ace
Deuces, Ace's first mate, thought that the WG asked Ace to become a Shishibukai because they might have known that he was the son of Roger
From WB's perpective beating a Shishibukai can increase your reputation as much as beating an emperor
From WB’s perspective it seems that Ace was not really eager to become a pirate and did that to respect the promise he did to Luffy and Sabo.
It is say that the emperor’s title is not for the most violent pirate but for the one who succeed in creating an empire
It is say that marines are actively trying to take territories from emperors but they are doing that step by step
Ace used CoC against a ferocious beast like Luffy against Duval’s bull
Teach is a beastly and ruthless fighter
The only time WB used the Gura gura no mi against Ace was during their last fight.
The novel ends by Ace and WB sharing a Sakazuki cup. It implied that Ace found on WB ship what he search for and that was the end of his journey (Rivaille’s note: what I understand from that is that Ace became a pirate not to become a pirate per se or to surpass his father but to find a place where he will be happy. If Luffy’s journey is to become PK, Ace journey was to find a place where he would be accepted, which he found on the Moby Dick).
