Golden Nugget (Atlantic City) Commercial With Fake Million Dollar Check
There is this relatively recent commercial that plays constantly on News 12 New Jersey for the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, NJ. It probably plays in PA and NY as well and is for online gambling (New Jersey allows it, but you technically have to be physically in the state). The owner is on a virtual Zoom call (evidently recorded during COVID-19) and is announcing in an almost passive aggressive and mocking tone, to paraphrase, that "I hate to give up a million dollars, but I am so happy that a long time customer is getting this". He then "hands" over a fake million dollar check to a very bloated but clearly content gambler. When you see this guy's tone and demeanor, especially his fake and nearly sarcastic "I am so happy", he comes across as almost threatening and menacing, like he is Robert Deniro in "Casino", wagging his finger and smirking while implying, "You mutha-####, you got me dis time, enjoy it while it lasts, you fat bastard." I do not know what viewers are supposed to take away from the commercial. A guy who is a "long time" gambler, who sort of looks it, too, "just" won a million dollars. The guy probably lost close to as much money as "a long time" gambler. The owner clearly tries to vocally emphasize that he is happy that a "long time customer" won, implying that some schmo who wins on his first try will clearly tick off the owner. He is almost saying, "I want the habitual gamblers to come here, and if they happen to win, I will be ok with it just once, but don't push your damn luck." When he says he is "so happy", he is clearly anything but happy based on the tone of his voice. What is odd is that with a commercial you get many takes to get it right. This looks like it was done on one take and the guy was doing a bad job hiding his displeasure. I understand that Golden Nugget probably has many "million dollar winners" and the guy isn't going to cry about that every time someone happens to win. But he really does come across as if he is in emotionally retching pain telling the guy he's getting a million dollars. I have also read that entrepreneurs are extremely thrifty and many will actually bemoan the loss of even small amounts. In any case, the commercial does not present anything novel or interesting about the casino, while really showing more about the owner, who comes off as bitter and even angry. Maybe they were trying to show a "personal side" to the owner? Maybe he was aiming to come across as a "buddy" to gamblers who is "in it for them". But that is clearly not what came across. Had the owner wanted to appeal to (1) the public at large or (2) long time gamblers more specifically, he could have done the same thing but avoided the unnecessary commentary where he says "I am so [effin] happy". But his face, tone, and demeanor all say "I am so unhappy". A lot of these people don't realize that people are not stupid and they can tell when they are being told a lie. Narcissists, in general, are bad at realizing that people can see their lies through them, because they think that people buy into all of their b.s. I am not sure if the guy is a narcissist or not but he must have thought, looking at the finished product, that "Damn, that looked good", which clearly it did not.

[Effortpost 6 of 15] Donald Trump's History of Bigotry
Based on the rhetoric of the 2016 Trump campaign, numerous racially charged tweets, anti-immigrant policies, and even the lack of diversity within his own staff, it doesn't seem surprising to say that Donald Trump is a bigot. Bear in mind that this will be quite long. It'll be broken down into three categories: pre-presidency, 2016 candidacy, and presidency. I should note that this post won't contain everything, so at the end I'll add other compilations of his remarks towards different groups.
The ads came from a grassroots anti-gambling group called the New York Institute for Law and Society created and run by longtime Trump friend and consultant, Roger Stone.
He claimed that it would be similar to President Eisenhower's "Operation Wetback" initiative, which deported 1.5 million illegal immigrants by bus, truck, and boat and dropped them off at remote parts of the US-Mexico border.
The capitalization of "TRAIL" refers to the Trail of Tears, an act of ethnic cleansing which forcibly relocated Native Americans and resulted in thousands of deaths.
2019 - Trump fired a series of tweets directed at Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib, claiming they are “from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe” and that they should "go back."
Stop AAPI Hate, an organization dedicated to tracking self-reported hostile anti-Asian instances since late March, says it has received over 2,000 reports since the project began. The group says it saw a surge in reports after Trump began using this rhetoric.
The group found that many anti-China comments were frequently associated with verbal and physical assault.
Virgin/Trop online NJ Blackjack Money Maker circa 2017?
okay so I just want to know if anyone else was aware of this. Before you get too excited, unless they are total idiots, this doesn't work anymore. And if it does and the casino is actually open (Tropicana Atlantic City), have at it. Just make sure you let me know. So, there was a promotion when you would originally download either the Virgin and/or Tropicana casino apps. These apps were really only for people in the NYC/NJ/PA area because to collect winnings you had to go to the window at the Trop. So, you create a new account, one on each app. You have to put in your SSN and show yr ID at the window so no fake names. But you do get to tell people who sent you and although the account that sent you would probably get closed down after awhile, they still got tons of free online gambling money for every person who wrote their name down. Now, you would go to 7-11 and get a Money Gram for $200 because these two apps were simultaneously running promos where your first $100 spent playing black jack was returned to you. This is the glitch: When you play one $100 hand of black jack, whether you lose, win, or get 21, the $100 goes into your account. So you could make, between the 2 sites, $600. The worst case is you would break even. You could collect the $200 (one from trop, one from Virgin), $400 (winna winna chicken dinna) or $600 (21.21.) at a specific window in the Tropicana casino. My friend and I did this with over 400 people: turning them on to it, keeping half their winnings because without us they wouldnt win anything at all, often fronting them the money. Does it still work? I'm scared to look. Is this frowned upon or brilliant? Me, I say brilliant because all the casinos not only have the advantage but it's been proven that they take advantage of glambling addicts by using slot machine algorythms that help put addicts in "the zone" where the dopamine is flowing and OH! So close! Almost Won! and have found, when it comes to slots at least, that when someone gets an "almost" (really, no such thing but that's kind of obvious) that their brain reacts in the exact same way it would if they had gotten a "win" that time: same lighted pathways, same release of same amount of chemicals, same addictive stuff. So, no, I don't feel bad. And if you think I should, walk through the AC bus station one day and then tell me how you feel about it.

Trying to play poker professionally... looking for advice.
I've always played poker growing up. Played NL holdem just about every other day($5-$10 buy in normally, with like 5-10 people, sometimes more) for 5 years growing up. Then after my friends all moved away, I started playing online poker, and did freerolls(even put a little money on). On top of this, I used to always watch WSOP, and watch NL poker strategy videos. I'm familiar with a lot of basic concepts. However, I'm completely clueless about "getting a good deal" from the house. I am not that familiar with "rakes", or what levels of rakes are good. So, I normally just play tournaments. I've never played a Tournament at the Casinos, but I live less than an hour from Atlantic City. I was thinking of starting to play some Online Poker(NJ has a few sites like Borgada, and Poker Stars, plus I've been playing international BetOnline.com, which has some good freerolls for practice), against lower level money players. I understand that right now, I'm probably not that good against high tier poker players. But, I want to get some SERIOUS practice in(and start potentially earning a little money). Wondering how people recommend starting a career in poker. Is online, or in-person more profitable, in general? Does anybody know of specific casinos/tournaments in AC, that would be low buy in? I'm not even sure if they exist, but I'd be looking for like a $10/$20/$50 max buy in. The lower the buyin, the better, as I'm doing this for experience, and while it's possible I'll place in the money, I'm not counting on it(and I'm pretty poor). Basically, I'm not likely to ever work a real job. It's either Stand up Comedy, or Professional Poker, or bum who dies in the streets(funnily enough, both of those careers often lead to the latter). So, I understand this isn't a career that works out for everyone. But I don't have many other things that I'm willing to do, and i'm willing to do this, so I want to give it an honest shot. Plus, I enjoy poker, and am pretty good at it(relative to my competition, which is admittedly, not that good).

Hey guys, First time ever posting on poker and although I enjoy playing poker with friends for minimal amounts of money (normally £5 buy in, winner takes the pot about once a month), I've never played in a casino or a higher stakes home game. I'm heading out to NJ next month with family, and as chance would have it, before travelling down to Cape May, we're staying overnight in Atlantic City. I had a look online and saw the Borgata has some $30+5 buy in tournaments which I wouldn't mind trying just to see what's what, as well as some $1/2 cash games, but in all honesty I'm a little overwhelmed with the options available and thought I would reach out to some people who are a little more travelled in the poker world. I'm not too concerned about coming out with a profit, like I say its a holiday and I'll probably be taking $150 or so gambling money anyway, (better to spend it at the poker tables than on a slot machine imo!), but I was wondering what would be the best game to play as a novice trying to learn in a live format? Apologies if this kind of post isn't allowed!
I blocked a bank payment due to faulty/suspect software - what are my options? (NJ)
The following takes place online in New Jersey, where I am currently located temporarily for work. Apologies in advance if I added the incorrect flair - wasn't really sure how to categorize this. Yesterday, I was checking my email when I noticed an advertisement for a poker tournament series on one of NJ's online poker providers (not specifying as per rules). Because I had my fill of live poker up to that point and wanted to go back to my hotel room (in Atlantic City) to relax, I decided to play the main event for that series. Previously, I have been an occasional user of this site, but at the time I had a balance of $0 so I needed to make a deposit. The tournament buy-in was about $500, so that is the exact amount I chose to deposit. When I got to my hotel room (21st floor - semi-relevant detail for later) I opened my laptop and connected to the hotel wifi network. I logged into the online poker client, and went through the usual process of it verifying my location - something it needs to do to be able to allow me to play for real money, as it is not allowed outside of NJ/NV. It confirmed my location as NJ, allowing me to deposit and register for the tournament. This was around 4:30-4:40 PM. A few minutes after 5 PM when the tournament started, the software went to do another location check, and this time was unable to verify my location. Multiple attempts to restart the software and my laptop proved unsuccessful. During this time, I did not so much as move from the side of the bed I was sitting on, and I maintained continuous connection to the hotel wifi. It seemed odd to me that the software had been able to verify my location just minutes ago when I went to pay them money, and now that I was actually trying to play the tournament for which I had paid, it no longer could. I called support and attempted to triage the issue. They told me that in order to verify my location, I had to be within range of multiple wifi networks for triangulation purposes. First, this specific fact is not laid out anywhere on the website or in the ToS - so I had no way at all to know this was a requirement. Second, and in my view more importantly, this was somehow not a problem in the exact same location 20 minutes prior. To be clear, at no point during this series of events was my laptop within range of a second wifi network. I know this because I saw the list of networks intermittently over this time period, and as mentioned previously, I was on the 21st floor of a major hotel in AC. At this point, I am not sure how their location verification software actually works - but needless to say, if I was in the exact same location on the exact same laptop connected to the exact same network within range of the exact same number of networks, it makes no sense that it could locate me long enough to pay and then immediately fail to do so (for the rest of the night!) once the tournament had already started. I was able to connect to the tournament for about two hands (neither of which I played), and that was it. I ran this complaint and refund request all the way up the flagpole for this particular site, but their decision to not refund me seems to be final on their end. One of the customer service reps I spoke with seemed to imply that a smaller buy-in might be more easily refundable, which doesn't make sense to me. The other one agreed that the software should not have been able to geolocate me when attempting to register the tournament. After the management at the site refused my refund request, I contacted my bank and submitted a stop payment request. I also left a voicemail with the New Jersey Casino Control Commission. In general, as I no longer believe their software to be reliable or their business practices to be fair, I am completely fine with any outcome where access to my account is frozen - either temporarily until I pay them back, or permanently. I am hoping to avoid a more substantially negative outcome, but seeing as this is my first time dealing with anything like this, I am not sure exactly what to expect. I tried to do a lot of googling, but nothing seemed to specifically fit this kind of case.
Am I justified in blocking this payment?
If this site attempts to recover the money or pursues anything beyond banning/locking my account, how should I proceed?
If this site were to, for example, send this to collections (as I see it, unlikely but possible) would I have a case for disputing it effectively?
Am I correct in feeling it is supremely unlikely they'd try to sue me to recover such a small amount? If not, same question as number 3. EDIT: In the worst case scenario, would they be able to recover substantially more than the $500?

Seminole Tribe of Florida (with an Assist from Disney) Protects Florida Gambling Monopoly
The Walt Disney Company spent $20 million in support of a ballot initiative that would give Florida voters the right to prevent the expansion of casino gambling within the state, a measure designed to protect their tourism interests and the state’s brand as a “family friendly” destination. Amendment 3 of the Florida Constitution passed on Tuesday evening, with more than 70% of the state’s voters backing the law that will require new casino projects to gain the support (60% must vote in favor) of the state-wide voting public prior to breaking ground; few (if any) projects are likely to meet the 60% benchmark. MGM Resorts International (seeks licensure in state), the Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (both NFL teams are hoping to profit on sports betting) were among those that publicly opposed the measure; each of the 3 entities spent $500K on the proposed amendment’s “no” campaign. Howie Long-Short: Disney (DIS) was invested in the amendment passing for its own selfish reasons, but there’s no bigger beneficiary to the “Voter Control of Gambling” amendment passing than the Seminole Tribe of Florida (spent $16 million on “yes” campaign). The Tribe dominates the Florida gaming landscape, operating in the state under a Federal gaming exemption afforded to Native Americans with little competition; the amendment’s passage ensures the moat remains around their business. The long and costly battle for gaming company expansion into the state just became infinitely more difficult, but don’t expect casino operators to give up on Florida. Dan Alkins (Chairman of the committee opposing the ballot initiative) said should the measure pass “there’s going to be litigation just continuing on forever.” The state’s size/population, reputation as a tourism destination and abundance of retirees makes it a highly desirable locale for casinos to take up residence. It’s worth pointing out the irony in the Miami Dolphins opposition of the amendment, while playing their home games at Hard Rock Stadium; a chain owned by the Seminole Tribe and the one that will pay the franchise $250 million over the next 18 years for naming rights. Speaking of MGM Resorts International (MGM), the company is reportedly exploring a potential merger with Caesar’s Entertainment (CZR) to form a gaming behemoth (think: +/- 50% of all hotel rooms in Las Vegas and Atlantic City). While there’s no offer on the table (and it’s possible regulators could determine a merger would create “undue economic concentration), it’s known that “without a CEO, Caesar’s is in play” and that it’s CZR’s activist investors (own +/- 25%) driving the tie-up talk; a merger would allow the combined companies to eliminate redundant “overhead and marketing” expenditures. Wynn Resorts (WYNN) and the Genting Group (OTC: GEBHY) have also been names as companies that could have interest in a CZR (-25% YTD) take-over. With licenses in 13 states (49 casinos), the company is well positioned to benefit from wide-spread sports betting legalization. Fan Marino: Howie mentioned Las Vegas and Atlantic City, so it seems like an opportune time to note that Eilers & Krejcik is projecting New Jersey sportsbooks will generate more sports betting revenue than those in the gambling mecca, as soon as 2021 ($442 million vs. $410 million). The boutique research firm (with a focus on the gaming industry) supported their thesis by pointing out NJ gamblers can make “sports betting transactions” on credit card (as opposed to being forced to make a deposit in a casino), that the state’s sportsbooks have created a highly competitive online/mobile market (think: pricing/promotions) and that state’s licensees have had “very high rates of black market recapture.” Interested in Sports Business? Help turn the tide on the internet poker bill and make NJ the epicenter for online poker in the US! TALKING POINTS: As recently reported by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, Atlantic City's collective casino revenue fell 8 percent in 2012, marking the sixth straight annual decline. According to a 2010 study by Econsult, a regulated online gambling market could equate to anywhere between $210 million and $250 million in added grossrevenue for the state. The analysis also estimated that the industry could create up to 1,900 jobs. The bill will directly increase Atlantic City’s revenue stream by requiring that all online gaming operators be restricted to land-based casinos in Atlantic City and casino operators would be required to obtain an online license (renewable on an annual basis) from regulators. New Jersey is uniquely positioned to lead this innovative new industry and help run the operations for other states that will want to adopt similar structures moving forward. Regardless of the player’s location within the state, all wagering will be deemed to have taken place where the casino’s server is located. The bill allows for both interstate compacts and taking play from players in other countries as long as the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement determines that such wagering is not inconsistent with federal law. If the state serves as a national hub, it could gain an estimated 57,000 jobs and generate between $205 million and $472 million in total tax revenue.
